Three Waves Movement
What Is the Three Waves Movement?
The Three Waves Movement is a growing community of Christian leaders, churches, and organizations from different countries and cultures working together to see the Gospel transform lives throughout the Amazon.

At the heart of the movement are three expressions of the global Church serving side by side:
The Western Church
Global workers, churches, and ministries from North America, Europe, and other outside regions that have a long history of involvement in the Amazon
The Latin American Church
Non-Indigenous believers, churches, and organizations from the countries of the Amazon region who are actively engaged in ministry among their own nations and neighboring peoples
The Amazonian Indigenous Church
Indigenous believers and churches of the Amazon who are increasingly serving as leaders, church planters, and missionaries to their own peoples and beyond
Why "Three Waves"?
The name Three Waves tells the story of how the Gospel has spread through the Amazon. The first wave came through foreign missionaries. The second wave emerged as Latin American churches joined the effort. Today, the third wave is growing as Amazonian Indigenous believers increasingly carry the Gospel to their own communities and deep into areas that others may never be able to reach.
Rather than working independently or replacing one another, these three waves now move forward together. The Three Waves Movement is built on unity and collaboration, bringing together different cultural expressions of the Church in partnership around a common vision. Each wave contributes unique strengths, experiences, and perspectives as they serve side by side as one Body in Christ.
Multiple Cultures. One Vision.
A movement is a growing community of people and organizations united by a shared vision and working together toward the same goal.
The vision of the Three Waves Movement is:
“To see the Amazonian and Lowland Indigenous Church strengthened and faithful to the Great Commission.”
This vision is rooted in the belief that all believers in Jesus are empowered by the Holy Spirit and entrusted with a role in advancing God’s Kingdom. It also recognizes that Indigenous churches in the Amazon are uniquely positioned to reach their own communities and neighbors with the transforming message of the Gospel.
